“Danny Kaye Hosts Peter Cottontail”

Schenetady Gazette – Apr. 3, 1971

Easter cheer comes a week early when Danny Kaye narrates and stars in “Here Comes Peter Cottontail,” a new ABC Television Network animated special, on Sunday, April 4 (7-8).

Inspired in part by the perennially popular hit song of the same name, and using a storyline based on “The Easter Bunny That Overslept” by Priscilla and Otto Friedrich, “Peter Cottontail” tells how Peter almost lost a contest to become the Chief Easter Bunny. The special is presented in “Animagic,” a new, animated three-dimensional process.

Danny Kaye will be heard as storyteller Seymour S. Sassafrass and will do the voices for two other characters in the story. Other vocal characterizations in the special are by Vincent Price, as the evil bunny, Irontail, and impressionist Paul Frees.

Besides singing the title tune, Kaye will also be heard in several original songs written by Maury Laws and Jules Bass. The script was adapted by Romeo Muller.

Producers for “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” are Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass, who produced last Christmas’ “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
