HOLLYWOOD – For the first time in its 40-year history, the famed Harry’s Bar in Venice has changed its recipe for noodles.

And that line will give you an idea of how slow things are in Hollywood. But Danny Kaye is the chef who programmed the change.

Danny and owner Harry Gipriani got into an argument about cooking, as Kaye always does when he travels. He challenged Harry to a noodle-cooking contest with the result that Danny’s noodle is now on Harry’s menu.

Danny said the secret is to use more eggs than Harry.

It’s the first time Danny has talked to me about cooking since I ordered chow mein in one of Hong Kong’s top restaurants. “They should have thrown it in your face,” said Danny, who sometimes can be blunt.
