“Kaye Plays 2 Roles in ‘Peter Pan’”

Youngstown Vindicator – Dec. 7, 1976

Danny Kaye meets himself coming and going in the Hallmark Hall of Fame silver jubilee production of Sir James M. Barrie’s perennial classic, “Peter Pan.”

In the dual role of Mr. Darling-Captain Hook, he costars with Mia Farrow (as Peter) in the new musical production which will be seen as an NBC “Big Event” on Sunday, Dec. 12 (7:30-9:30 p.m.) over Channel 21.

The tradition of the same actor playing both roles is not a gimmick. It stems from there being little doubt in Barrie’s mind that Captain Hook was the dream world reincarnation of the kindly but gruff and often bad-tempered Mr. Darling, father of Wendy, John and Michael – the three children who accompany Peter Pan to Neverland.

Kaye has never played Darling-Hook before be he has portrayed many characters beloved by whole families in motion pictures, such as “Hans Christian Andersen.”
