“Danny Kaye Flies to Korea”

Eugene Register-Guard – Dec. 18, 1961

TRAVIS AFB, Calif. (UPI) – Old trouper Danny Kaye and a planeload of young troopers were en route Monday to Korea, where Kaye will entertain servicemen spending Christmas in the bleak former battleground.

Kaye took off from Travis Air Force Base Sunday at midnight on a military flight headed for Tokyo by way of Honolulu and Wake Island.

With him aboard the plane were 148 Army troops and the wives and children of some of them. The passengers were unaware that Kaye was on the flight until he appeared wearing a comic hat.

The entertainer, a licensed pilot with 500 hours logged flying time, immediately checked in at the pilot’s cabin and threatened to take the controls.
