The Dispatch – Aug. 10, 1971

Richard Rodgers’ “Two by Two” musical about Noah and the Great Flood has announced a closing date of Sept. 11 because that is when the one-year contract of star Danny Kaye ends. The producer-composer does not care to continue it without him.

Kaye is still playing Noah with a walking cast on the leg that was badly damaged in an onstage accident last February. He was out of the show for 11 days, and for several weeks he used a wheelchair and crutches during his performances.

“Two by Two” opened here last Nov. 10 and will have had 352 performances at the Sept. 11 closing.

NEW YORK (AP) – Danny Kaye says he will return to the cast of the musical “Two by Two” Thursday with his left leg in a cast, and perhaps using a crutch and wheelchair.

Kaye slipped on stage two weeks ago and tore a ligament in his ankle. Without him, the show has been doing none too well at the box office.
